Nancy C. Murphy, Founding Partner

Ms. Murphy’s practice includes all aspects of the trial and settlement of complex marital dissolutions, including pre-nuptial agreements, post-nuptial agreements, separation agreements, spousal (maintenance) and child support, parenting time between the parties, residential home, if any, complex asset characterization and division issues, including a special emphasis on the analysis of stock options, and contests to the validity of pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements.

Prior to opening this firm, Ms. Murphy was a 711 student and then an attorney for the Legal Assistance Foundation of Chicago (from 1987 to 1996).  She was instrumental in beginning the Family Law Project in 1990.  She was a consultant to the other attorneys in the agency and has continued to consult such litigants, attorneys and others such as Chicago police officers, Illinois State’s Attorneys, Domestic Violence Clinics, Pro Bono Projects.  She has taught and spoken on family law issues at such schools as Berkeley, the American Psychiatric Institute (while also making recordings) with Dr. Galatzer-Levy of Chicago on the emotion effects of domestic violence on victims.  She was hand selected (by former Judge Susan Snow and current Chief Judge Timothy Evans) committee to develop the Cook County Focus On Children mandatory program for adults for children going through divorce currently in Cook County.  Ms. Murphy was also selected to be a Guardian ad Litem, Children’s Representative and Attorney for the Child as assigned by the Judges in the Domestic Relations Division.   She is a trained Mediator and a trained professional Collaborative Attorney.  She currently donates much of her time to help those in need with legal and other services in the Western Suburbs of Chicago.  She is an advocate for Affordable Housing, Food and Education, and Safety and is overseeing change in the Western Suburbs.
